When and where did you first get the inspiration to write your book?
When I was in college and through my 20's, I used to get these crazy nightmares, sometimes a couple of times a week - they were incredibly vivid, always accompanied by a loud buzz, and I couldn't seem to wake up from them. Years later, I read something about sleep paralysis, and thought that must be what was causing them, but then I read something in a book by psychic Sylvia Browne that described my dreams perfectly, and she said it was when you were having an out-of-body experience and you woke up half in and half out of your body. In my case, I'm going with the "sleep paralysis" theory, but the writer in me wondered "what if".
What is your writing process like?
I like big chunks of quiet time to sit down and write. When I wrote Auracle, I spent the summer on the first draft, put it away until January 2, then revised until April. I'm working on an outline for a historical fantasy now, and that big chunk of quiet writing time just isn't there, so I need to adjust to a new writing process here.
What were your thoughts when you first saw the cover?
I love the cover!! I loved it from the first moment I saw it ... I printed it out and hung it on my fridge! Blue is my favorite color, and I love the way the designer featured the light, the floating girl, and the waterfall. They did an amazing job!
What four words best describe Auracle?
Metaphysical, positive, hopeful, kawaii,
What part of this process, from signing on with your agent until now, was the best part?
Opening the envelope to find the finished ARC, then sitting down in The Big Cozy Chair to read ... that was when it felt real.
